126 On The Corner Giant Sunflower Competition
Tracey shares her recent event:
“I planted 100 sunflower seeds in October 2019 and grew 85 plants. A month later we had 65 people register and take a plant each.
2 weeks ago we rang everyone to see whose plants survived and organise 2 lists for judging.
Our Judges were Natalie Brydon (local resident) and Graeme Norman (principal of St Bernadette’s School). Henk teamed up with Natalie and I teamed up with Graeme. Judging was great fun and another way to be in touch with our local families. Once judging was finished we found the 12 winners for tallest plant and widest seedhead.
Aren’t the photos awesome! Thanks Jeremy for taking these for us. Jeremy went round with me yesterday to deliver the prizes. Seeing such excited families and kids who know they are amazing.
This really took off as our new initiative. Our community is looking forward to the next competition. ”
Tracey Buunk Community Development Worker Hei Hei / Broomfield
We welcomed Ji Yun Jeong onboard as our new Family Community Development Worker in the Syndeham area, while thanking Sandra for her input over the last eighteen months and wish her all the very best for the next adventures that await her.
Ji Yun and the team have a bunch of exciting ideas for the year ahead at our base in Roxburgh Street, and are interested in hearing from the Sydenham community of any groups or activities that they may want. We are on the lookout for volunteers to help run groups, and wonder if there is any keen gardener who would like to help maintain ours?
Spring always seems to bring with it lots of change and new energy.
Our biggest change has been shifting our base office from Wilsons Road and we are settling into our new base in Sydenham – 8A Roxburgh STreet. An official opening is planned for November.
We have recently farewelled Gabi, one of our PCW workers: we wish her well in her new position over at Child Cancer Foundation.

Time for a change – Donna and Rae have unfortunately decided it is a time for a change and are moving on from their positions at the Linwood Resource Centre. We wish them well, and are on the look out for a new Garden Overseer and Community Development Worker.
We are now able to offer the Seasons for Growth program; with a training course for people who would like to become volunteer facilitators planned for early November. Please contact Don for more details – email@example.com or phone 0204-169-2186.
The change of season has brought about some changes in staffing for ACCD.
We recently farewelled Mona who leaves Linwood Resource Centre to go across to The Rata Foundation. We wish her all the very best in her new position. Rae will be moving from her PCW position across to fill Mona’s gap and in June we welcome Gabi who will be taking over from Rae. In addition, we welcome Sandra who joins the FCDW team.
